Arta Khakpour comes to Nueva from New York University, where he was a postdoctoral teaching fellow in the Core Curriculum and taught undergraduate courses and trained graduate student teachers. He received his PhD in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies from NYU with a focus on modern Iranian cultural and literary history, and his BA from Brown University, where he double majored in Old World archaeology and art and Middle East studies. At NYU, he taught courses on Middle Eastern history and culture, Persian language and literature, and comparative religion and philosophy. Arta has worked as an archaeologist at the Great Temple excavation in Petra, Jordan, an archival consultant for the Asia Society, and is an avid translator of Middle Eastern literature. In his free time, Arta enjoys playing guitar and writing songs, building and tinkering with computers, and reading science fiction.
