Mary Cantwell

Educator and Design Thinking Consultant
Atlanta, GA
Mary Cantwell (@scitechyedu) is a 20-year educator with a master’s degree in educational leadership in technology. She dove DEEP into Design Thinking, encouraged visible thinking, and sparked a rapid transformation into 21st century learning, thinking, and creating. Currently, Mary travels around the world facilitating and collaborating with schools, organizations, and learners to challenge the status quo, strengthen pedological instruction, and create growth and change within the culture.

She adapted Stanford’s d.School Design Thinking model and designed DEEPdt: Discover, Empathize, Experiment, Produce, a Design Thinking methodology utilized throughout K–12+ spaces. Mary has presented at numerous conferences, including Tech Forum, NAIS, ILC, SXSWedu Makerspace, Nueva Institute, and EduCon, as well as conducting professional learning workshops and coaching at Stanford University’s d.School “K12 Workshop,” CDC, Albemarle County Public Schools, Kaiser Permanente, and Episcopal Academy (to name just a few). Mary was named 1 of 25 NAIS Teachers of the Future.

It is a rare moment that Mary is not connected, as she is an active Twitterhead who feels passionately about demonstrating and sharing the Design Thinking methodology through her tweets. Many followers also enjoy her i.Design Lab blog and her site for DEEP Design Thinking (www.DEEPdesignthinking.com). She is also a cofounder of #dtk12chat, a weekly conversation about Design Thinking in K–12 education.
