Lisa V. Gale, PhD, joined StoryCorps as chief program officer in 2017. She is a member of the organization's five-member executive team and oversees the production of audio and animated shorts, the interview collection (including a MobileTour, StoryBooths in two cities, and a team of national facilitators), the training of organizations and institutions that adopt StoryCorps's methods into their program, recording and archives, and research and evaluation. Previously, Dr. Gale served as deputy commissioner of employment services for the NYC Human Resources Administration, where she shepherded the agency's adoption of a customized approach to employment and education services for more than 60,000 recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In her 25-plus-year career, Dr. Gale has provided a means for marginalized populations to speak to their own needs and to gain access to education, adult literacy, and workforce development services and fostered the emergence of small businesses and nonprofit enterprises nationally.
