Lissie McAlvey

The Nueva School
Middle School Math Teacher
Lissie joins Nueva from Chicago, where she was a middle school teacher at an independent school on the city’s south side. Before that, she taught middle school math for two years and coached basketball and soccer in her hometown of East Lansing, Michigan. She received her BA in mathematics and education from Wheaton College, where she played varsity basketball. She is most passionate about teaching mathematics in a way that provides students with the skills they’ll need for tomorrow’s world and workforce, and advancing domestic infrastructure to make America’s education system more globally competitive, equal among all students, and rigorous. She is committed to guiding students through their exploration and understanding of the patterned complexities of the world around us and is elated to be a part of Nueva’s dynamic community. Personally, Lissie is an enthusiastic learner, world traveler, and a voracious reader of all things nonfiction. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing sports and piano, and trying new things.
